The UFC returns to Las Vegas this weekend for UFC 329: McGregor vs Holloway 2, taking place this Saturday, July 11th, at T-Mobile Arena during International Fight Week. Headlining the card is a welterweight rematch between former two-division champion Conor McGregor and former featherweight champion Max Holloway, with McGregor fighting for the first time since his 2021 leg injury and Holloway getting the chance, 13 years later, to revisit one of the earliest losses of his UFC run.

The first fight happened so early in both careers that it barely resembles this version of either man. McGregor won that night in 2013, even fighting through a torn ACL, but the larger story since then has been Holloway’s climb into one of the sport’s greatest volume strikers while McGregor’s career turned into bursts of brilliance separated by long absences. That growth shows most clearly in how much more control Holloway has over exchanges now. He no longer needs a brawl to make the fight his; he can take it over with the jab, the body work, and the kind of layered pressure that keeps building over rounds. McGregor’s path is narrower, but still obvious: the left hand, the southpaw counters, and the kind of timing that punishes even a half-second of hesitation. The question is whether, after five years away, that version of McGregor is still there.
