🦬 UFC Fight Night: Du Plessis vs Usman this Saturday in Oklahoma City
The UFC returns to Oklahoma City for the first time in nearly a decade this weekend for UFC Fight Night: Du Plessis vs Usman, taking place this Saturday, July 18th, at Paycom Center. Headlining the card is a middleweight bout between former champion Dricus Du Plessis (#2) and former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman (#9), with Du Plessis returning for the first time since losing the belt and Usman looking to turn a successful comeback win into an immediate push near the top of the middleweight division.
Du Plessis’ loss to Khamzat Chimaev last summer was the first setback of his UFC career, snapping an 11-fight win streak that included victories over Robert Whittaker, Israel Adesanya, and current champ Sean Strickland, twice. Du Plessis is expected to bounce back hard, bringing the same physicality, finishing instinct, and unusual style that have made him such a difficult solve at 185. Usman, now 39, proved in his fight against Joaquin Buckley that the wrestling, balance, and round control that have kept him at the top of the welterweight division for so long, are all still there. Usman’s task is to keep this technical without letting it become a physical grind; Du Plessis’ is to make the former welterweight champion feel every one of those extra 15 pounds.
