The UFC heads to Winnipeg this weekend for UFC Fight Night: Burns vs Malott, taking place this Saturday, April 18th, at the Canada Life Centre. Headlining the card is a welterweight matchup between former title challenger Gilbert Burns (#12) and Canadian contender Mike Malott, with Burns trying to halt a four-fight skid against a rising local favorite looking to break into the rankings.

Burns comes into this one at a difficult point in his career. At 39 and on a four-fight losing streak, he is now fighting to prove that he’s still got it. A third-degree black belt in jiu-jitsu, Burns remains one of the division’s most dangerous grapplers, and his pressure and explosiveness have long made him a difficult fighter to deal with once he gets inside. Malott, fighting at home in Canada, is riding a three-fight win streak and coming off a unanimous decision win over Kevin Holland. At 6’1” with a two-inch reach advantage, Malott has the size and the cleaner range striking, but Burns has spent years making technical fights unravel once he gets his hands on people.
